Interaction of Platelets, Leukocytes and the Endothelium*

چکیده
Interactions between the vessel wall and platelets or leukocytes were traditionally thought to be separate cellular adhesive contributions to either coagulation or inflammation. Platelets, in response to vessel wall injury, adhere to components of the extracellular matrix (ECM), which triggers sudden platelet activation and platelet plug formation. Initial responses are followed by coagulant activity and the formation of fibrin-containing thrombi that occlude the site of injury. These events are crucial to prevent posttraumatic blood loss, but they are also a major pathomechanism in arterial thrombosis. The Effect of Resistance Training with Two Maximum and Sub-maximal Intensities on Leukocytes and Blood Coagulation Factors in Non-Athlete Men: A Clinical Trial Study
Background and Objectives: The effects of maximal and sub-maximal resistance exercise on leukocytes and coagulator factors is ambiguous. Therefore the purpose of the present study was to determine the effect of maximum and sub-maximal resistance training intensities on leukocytes and blood coagulation factors in non-athlete men. Materials and Methods: In this clinical trial study,...
متن کاملPlatelets roll on stimulated endothelium in vivo: an interaction mediated by endothelial P-selectin.
P-selectin, found in storage granules of platelets and endothelial cells, can be rapidly expressed upon stimulation. Mice lacking this membrane receptor exhibit a severe impairment of leukocyte rolling. We observed that, in addition to leukocytes, platelets were rolling in mesenteric venules of wild-type mice. To investigate the role of P-selectin in this process, resting or activated platelets...
متن کاملEndothelial-Leukocyte Interaction in Severe Malaria: Beyond the Brain
Malaria is the most important parasitic disease worldwide, accounting for 1 million deaths each year. Severe malaria is a systemic illness characterized by dysfunction of brain tissue and of one or more peripheral organs as lungs and kidney. The most severe and most studied form of malaria is associated with cerebral complications due to capillary congestion and the adhesion of infected erythro...
متن کاملPlatelet kinetics in the pulmonary microcirculation in vivo assessed by intravital microscopy.
Growing evidence supports the substantial pathophysiological impact of platelets on the development of acute lung injury. Methods for studying these cellular mechanisms in vivo are not present yet. The aim of this study was to develop a model enabling the quantitative analysis of platelet kinetics and platelet-endothelium interaction within consecutive segments of the pulmonary microcirculation...

The directed homing of leukocytes is crucial during immune surveillance or inflammation and is accomplished by a complex cooperation of signaling and adhesion molecules.1,2 Its pathophysiologic relevance is exemplified by various inflammatory diseases such as atherosclerosis.3 At present, the course of leukocyte trafficking is well established through the classical multistep cascade of initial ...
